Quick answerLocalSpindle of Wisconsin repairs CNC turret punches and stamping presses across the state, including Amada, Trumpf, Murata Wiedemann, Strippit, Finn-Power, Minster, Bliss, Niagara, Verson and Aida. We fix clutch and brake problems, turret index and station alignment, feeds, die protection, hydraulics and safety circuits.
From our techs
Turret punches
A turret punch that tears holes, leaves slugs or wears tools fast is often telling you about alignment. Upper and lower stations drift out of line after a crash or with wear, and a few thousandths is enough to chip tools and leave burrs. We check station alignment, turret index repeatability, clamp operation and the striker, then adjust or replace what’s worn.
On hydraulic and servo-electric turrets, the ram drive and its controls get the same attention: pressure, accumulator charge, ram position feedback, and the axis drives that move the sheet.
Stamping presses
Mechanical presses live and die by the clutch and brake. Stopping time creeping up, a press that coasts, or air leaks at the rotary union are signs to act on now, both for production and for safety. We measure stopping time, service the clutch and brake, check the air system and dual valve, and look at the flywheel bearings and gibs.
Hydraulic presses get the hydraulic workup: pump, valves, cylinder seals, pressure settings and oil condition. On both, we check die protection sensors and the feed timing, because a mistimed feed is behind a lot of crashed dies.
Feeds, coil lines and die protection
Servo feeds, straighteners and coil reels are part of the press as far as your production is concerned. We repair feed drives and rolls, set pilot release timing, and troubleshoot die protection so it catches real problems without nuisance stops.
Symptoms
What you're seeing, and what it usually means
The alarm names the axis or the unit. These are the causes we find behind it most often.
| What you’re seeing | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| Press coasts or stopping time is long | Worn clutch or brake, air pressure problems, or a sticking dual valve. |
| Turret won’t index or misses stations | Index drive, shot pin, sensors or a mechanical bind in the turret. |
| Burrs, chipped tools or bad holes | Station misalignment, worn tooling, wrong clearance or a striker problem. |
| Feed misfeeds or mislocates | Feed roll wear, pilot release timing, servo drive or encoder problems. |
| Die protection trips with nothing wrong | Sensor placement, wiring or timing window settings. |
| Hydraulic press slow or weak | Pump wear, relief valve setting, leaking seals or contaminated oil. |

Example service call
Stamping press stopping time creeping up
The call
A stamping shop in Sheboygan County noticed a mechanical press coasting further past top dead center after each stop.
What we did
- Phone. We asked about air pressure and the last brake service. Air was steady and the brake hadn’t been looked at in years.
- On site. Measured stopping time was well over the press’s baseline. Brake friction material was worn and one spring was broken.
- Fix. Replaced the brake friction and springs, serviced the dual valve and checked the clutch.
- Check. Stopping time back to baseline and recorded for the shop’s safety file.
The result. Running safely the next day. Stopping time is now checked at every PM.

From the field
Punch, turret and stamping press: tips from our techs
Track stopping time
A brake wears gradually. Measuring stopping time regularly catches it before it’s a hazard.
Keep turret tools sharp
Dull tools load the turret and the ram, and hide alignment problems.
Drain the air
Water in the press air line hurts clutches, valves and cylinders. Keep drains and dryers working.
